The Zărnești Gorge

A gorge with walls two hundred metres high, twenty minutes from the house.

Park at Gura Râului, or walk from the village if you feel like it. The forest road runs between the limestone walls and climbs gently, in the shade almost all the way.

Good to know

• In summer, start early: after ten it gets crowded.
• Stay on the road: the cliffs are a reserve, and chamois really do pass through.
• If you have the energy, carry on to Curmătura Hut for a bowl of soup.
